So mine has the purple sticker but no promo stamp I think it is this copy? Can anyone else verify? Excited to open this sealed copy so Maestro Badalamenti can sign it!

Given all the below, a person stumbling into a copy of this might be skeptical of the quality of this release. I’m happy to say that my copy of this pressing is very detailed and—despite Rainbo’s hit-or-miss hatchet jobs—very good! Mild warp typical of a record transported in a warm truck, but full dynamic range is present. A good buy.

After purchasing a “New but Open” copy of ‘Floating’ locally at a discount I thought I’d gotten a steal. As others have said, it’s really pretty. Also, as noted by others, this red Plain Recordings pressing sounds just terrible. The surface noise and various cracklings, ticks, and loud pops are especially egregious with this type of music. I cleaned it several times, convinced it was just dirty. Thanks to those posting their experiences, it’s not always easy to get information on these new pressings.

My copy of Floating Into The Night arrived yesterday in the post and I was so excited to listen to it. It was a beautiful vinyl. Such a nice translucent cherry red record. Popped it on to listen and was bombarded by surface noise, cracking, and occasional pops. On both sides. Not to mention it was brand new. Will avoid Plain Recordings in the future.

Found a promo copy out and about and took a risk. So happy I did. Sounds so great!

While my time with vinyl has been short, I can easily say this is by far the worst record I'd ever heard. Constant popping, surface noise, and audible scratching on a brand new copy. It was so bad that I had to return it the second I finished listening to it. Stay away!
Mozel
It's an amazing work of one piece. "The World Spins" is incredible.
DART-SKRIMER
Got a copy today, my pressing is perfect. Dead silent background, dynamic mastering, no crackles or pops throughout play. Far superiour to the Plain version. If no original is around to get, this is the reissue I'd recommend. Originally I wanted to get the Twin Peaks soundtracks. But as I was mainly interesed in the Julee Cruise songs, this LP seemed like a better deal for me.
TheSuspect
I got a near-mint copy of this from BuffaloRecordShop, and it sounds beautiful. Definitely worth copping this!

I'm a big Ween fan.. I've heard bad stuff about Plain, they reissued a bunch of Ween albums and practically butchered them from what I read. This is one of my favorite albums ever, did this get effed up that bad?
Pryl
Thanks for your feedback. I'm going to try and get one then.
Grokinos
It was pressed at Rainbo, buying is a hit or miss. Mine sounds fine.

I had a copy of the Music on Vinyl pressing and it had a defect. I returned it to the store and got this version instead, which was also still sealed, and found that it has a visible scratch on song 2 and crackle and pops throughout. Will someone please press up a decent version of this. I'm not sure whether these are bootleg pressings or what the deal is, but it's definitely not my system.
Winasana
I bought a copy of this while on vacation and side 2 had intermittent and jarring distortion throughout the entire side. Side one was fine. I contacted Amoeba and they exchanged it for the Plain red vinyl version, which has a scratch on the second song and various pops throughout. It's at least listenable, unlike this version.
Modar
Just received my copy of this. Side 1 plays fine, but side two has persistent crackle throughout (though on closer listening, it seems to only be there on the tracks themselves, but not the gaps between). New needle on the deck as well (as I said, Side 1 is perfect). Anyone else hear this?
Zodama
I was hesitate to buy this when I saw it was released by Plain Recordings. The label doesn't have a great track record. But rest assured this reissue sounds wonderful. Most likely sourced digitally but sound quality is what matters to me. And this one makes the grade. Recommended.
Cozius
Thanks for that confirmation. No wonder it sounds so good.
Wizard
A Plain rep on Facebook confirmed that it was sourced from the original flat analog masters. That extra untitled track is likely extra evidence for this.
Pruster
The untitled "mystery" track (listed here as A6) is not found on (my copy of) the MOV reissue.
Ffyan
How does the MOV version sound?
Shalinrad
The "mystery track" listed here as A6 (and included on the recent Plain reissue) is not included here (on my copy).
MARK BEN FORD
How does this reissue sound? Was it worth the purchase?
Gri
This sounds incredible. Do not hesitate to buy this.
Dagdarad
I tried to order it but seemingly they've run out of it somehow...I'm glad MOV re-release it soon, I don't know how this edition sounds but I haven dissapointed in MOV so far

I saw this at my local record store and almost picked it up, but I'm very weary of Plain Recordings. Does anyone know what source Plain used to press this reissue?
Zorve
Don't hesitate to pick this one up. I was leery, too, considering the label. But it sounds amazing.
Marr
I just got mine and am surprised to have discovered that there's an extra track here! It's at the end of side 1 right after Mysteries of Love. It's around a minute or so long. An atmospheric noise piece pretty much. Was this on the original LP? If not, I wonder if this proves Plain did use the original flat masters as they claim. Could have been a left over track that WB was instructed not to use or they decided not to. If so that's pretty awesome.Mystery track aside, I think the LP sounds amazing. Sounds leaps and bounds better than my original CD. Falling sounded like hearing it for the first time, and many of the tracks sound like a band is in the room playing. A moment of note is when the sax comes in on track 3; absolutely UNBELIEVABLE.
JoJoshura
I have the Plain Recordings reissue and with most of their reissues, it's hit and miss. With this particular album you really have to turn up the gain to hear at least some channel separations. At low volume everything seems to be balanced. But the songs are amazing!
Sharpbrew
Does this sound as good as the original pressing? I'm curious as well.
just one girl
Someone posted a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEFXbEm1PhQIt sounds good, not sure how it compares to the original vinyl or CD though.
Thomeena
Does anybody have any clue of the sound of this reissue ?
Virtual
Plain claims it's a "high resolution transfer of the flat master tapes."https://www.facebook.com/Runtshop/photos/pb.459315864146396.-2207520000.1414971220./704485319629448/?type=1&theaterThey don't specify "original" so it could be the master used for digital distribution as opposed to an earlier one. I'm really wary about Plain considering their somewhat bad reissue reputation, but I'm thinking about biting the bullet on this one just to give it a try.
Mbon
First encounter i had with Julee Cruise was with Twin Peaks series back in the early 90's where she performed on stage in one episode singing "Rockin' Back Inside My Heart". And i remembered that song for 10 years until i heard her first album 'Floating Into The Night', And it is all top notch stuff. The production on it is so polished and suberb for beeing a 1989 release. Mysterious, haunting themes with Cruise's velvet smooth voice is just lovely to listen to. It's all silky downtempo jazz and deep vibes mixed up with ambience that makes this a perfect Sunday home listeng album. The music can be heavily linked to the city of Hollywood or L.A in a certain way and offcourse to the movies of David Lynch whom i understand why he liked her music in the first place. This is highly recomended stuff.
