Our Love is the seventh studio album by Canadian musician Dan Snaith, released under the moniker Caribou on October 6, 2014 by City Slang worldwide and October 7, 2014 by Merge in North America and South America. It is Snaith's fourth album as Caribou, having released his previous album, Jiaolong, as Daphni in 2012. It features collaborations with Jessy Lanza and Owen Pallett.

Our Love, his first album as Caribou in four years, is his first full-length that doesn’t come with a major shift from the sound of its predecessor. This is body music on the same general wavelength as Swim, albeit slightly warped and refined. The differences, then, are deeper: this is Snaith’s most overtly personal record to date, one that’s remarkable for its intimacy, openheartedness, and joy derived from basic human connection.

Caribou - 'Our Love'. Since the last Caribou album, 2010’s ‘Swim’, Dan Snaith has concentrated on releasing techno under his Daphni alias. The 35-year-old Canadian has said that. The Canadian producer's thrilling fourth album ties together over a decade's worth of sonic kicks. This fourth Caribou record encapsulates his whole career. Unwrap its rainbow artwork and you’ll find the plush harmonics of 2007’s ‘Andorra’ (‘Second Chance’), ‘Swim’’s cold, oscillating synths (‘Dive’) and Daphni’s strict beats (‘Mars’)

Our Love, you can play the second half out – but the first half? The Daphni tracks I made specifically to be played in clubs, so they should all work. I also think that the house music thing is fairly surface level, because one of the things that I picked up on was the influence of R&B, and hip hop – a song like Dive for example sounds like a hip hop production from the last couple of years. For an album that's all about love it's important not to be this one-sided thing. It makes it a lot more feminine. Caribou: "It is key, for sure.

Dan Snaith reckons his latest Caribou album is mind-numbingly simple – but that does a great disservice to this beautifully strange, subtle music.

That is what "Our Love" means for me. It's not some bullshit fairy tale but the daily connection and presence between people. Can’t Do Without You’ was followed later in the summer by title track ‘Our Love’, which continued with the textured warmth of its predecessor, adding tinges of foreboding with cut-up vocals and baroque string arrangements courtesy of Owen Pallett (who appears three times on the album). Whilst palpably melancholic, it is the lyrics which show the first glimpse of his dystopic view of loving relationships: you were in my dream again/and I could see you kissing him oh girl/why’d you have to change your mind/just as I was changing mine?.

Caribou leaves behind some of the 'folk' tag that marked his earlier work for more electronic-focused work on OUR LOVE, though as one can hear from the opener "Can't Do Without You," he hasn't left behind his romantic leanings one bit. "Silver" dips into some electro, and "All I Ever Need" takes a page from his Daphni project and swings into some house 4/4, while the title track combines both of those. Jessy Lanza comes in to grace the refractions of "Second Chance," while the percussion on "Mars" takes on a tribal undertone, even if the track itself wanders a bit too much. And, finally, "Your Love Will Set You Free" ends the album on an understated note, even swooning at the very end. Who doesn't need a dose of our love?

Quite average release from Dan. It's definitely a good album, but really not his best. He can be more creative than this!
