Jane Doe is the fourth studio album by American metalcore band Converge. Critics praised its poetic lyrics, dynamic range, ferocity and production. Jacob Bannon had this to say about the album’s lyrical content and artwork

Jane Doe marked the full flowering of Converge’s sound: The pace of punk and complexity of heavy metal, as brutal as a jackhammer and as featherlight as bebop. From the minute-long opening salvo of Concubine through the twin landmines of Fault and Fracture and Distance and Meaning and the aching grandeur of the title track, Jane Doe doesn’t just refresh an old sound, it finesses what at the time was an entirely new one-screaming not out of anger, but out of heartache.

Seen a fair bit of flack for the new pressing, but this sounds great to me (albeit after an initial wet cleaning to remove the staticky pops and "skips" everyone seems to keep bringing up). If a few pops or clicks make this album "unlistenable ", then it might be best to consider why you got it in the first place. Back in press and still completely, entirely, heavenly devastating!
Kitaxe
I'd like to think it was appropriately aggressive. However, your copy is clearly and sadly warped, and I would be extremely disappointed as well. Possibly a shipping or warehousing issue, but I sincerely doubt it was the literal pressing of the album that did that.Extremely pleased with mine, regardless.
Oveley
Wow, passive-aggressiveness. This is somehow acceptable or 'listenable' to you? - http://tinyurl.com/ju53msc
Mbon
Beautiful package and color, but garbage pressing. Consistently skips through the first 30-45 seconds on both sides of the first disc.
Maucage
Uuuuuuuugggh...wish I seen these comments before buying a copy (in the mail as we speak). At least it'll look cool (and the issue doesn't seem to affect 'Jane Doe').
romrom
Got the same thing on mine. Not very thrilled considering how much they're now charging for their records. One would think there would be a little more quality control. Oh well.
Vikus
both of my original pressings had that too ( black 1st and moca / white ) both have that what Sanspants mention´d .. seems like they still use the same mother or even stamper what would be extremely horrible and would explane why soo many people complane about the sound and dynamic of the later reissues
Fenritaur
I just played mine for the first time and I agree. The A side has some sort of visible pressing smudge (?) that caused an indentation at the edge of the disc. It seems to affect the B side as well.
Nuadazius
This is an amazingly beautiful release. The artsy 28 page album sized booklet is a perfect supplement for the music and really puts you in the mood. The pressing sounds great and has a fine dynamic to it, and the tracks are as great as ever. 5 out of 5 stars!
Yozshunris
Terribly sad to report that my copy of this is pretty much unplayable. It skips for the first minute of every side, totally ruining some of my favorite tracks, Concubine in particular. I love this album to death, my rating is just for this specific copy. They did a terrible job of pressing this. Oh, the blue is pretty.
Gralinda
mine just sounds horrible in general. huge disappointment for such a classic record.
Gnng
First disc on my clear w/ white smoke does the same thing. : Three years later and still can't get it right apparently
Dynen
Same exact thing happened to mine. I had the Kings Road red smoke edition. Seems to be a literal disc defect, huge disappointment. especially considering how much it costed and how much I was looking forward to it.
Freaky Hook
Can anyone tell me if this edition of the album came with a barcode printed on the upper edge of the back of the cover?Thank you,JayR45789
Usishele
neither, there is no barcode whatsoever on this release.
DART-SKRIMER
The pressing sounds fantastic, very clear and pummeling, though I imagine it helps that this was recorded analog. The jacket isn't a matte finish or anything but it looks nice, especially the spine labeling. The book is great too, fantastic artwork throughout.
Yanthyr
mine sounds really bad, and slowed down. bummer, can't listen to it.
Fearlessrunner
Look at my record collection, you think I'm new to this? I tried on different speeds, different players. I tried trading it in and they wouldn't take it.
Malara
thejigisup mine sounds really bad, and slowed down. bummer, can't listen to it. That's because it's a 45rpm record. Turn up the speed!

I noticed today that equal vision seems to be selling this again on black vinyl. Any way to distinguish between the original press on black vinyl and what they are selling now?
Skrimpak
I know this is an extremely late response, but aside from them being released and/or distributed by different labels, the very first 2001 pressings have the band's name and album title printed on the front cover. The following years/pressings do not.
Kaim
Yes but I also see it for sale on the equal vision website. Perhaps those sold on the equal vision website will have a deathwish label on the album, but that's what I'd like to confirm.

I read that the reissue will be on the Deathwish records label, so that should make it easy to distinguish :)

There is no remaster of this recording so far. I remember reading or watching an interview with Kurt admitting that he sometimes has itchy fingers with regard to a remaster. There seem to be parts that he would have mixed differently nowadays. However, he also said that the iconic status and praising response to this recording was the reason better not to mess with the original.
xander
Nice. I managed to score a black original very cheaply a few years back. Of course, it was after I purchased the first run of the 2010 remastered reissue.
Nten
Awesome - thanks! Very much appreciated!! Glad to see I have an original!
mr.Mine
The original press actually has the band name and title of the album printed on the cover with a very thin flimsy vinyl weight. The new black press has a thicker weight and no band name or title printed on the cover. Hope this is helpful nearly 4 years later.

Hello,1.) now the "clear gold /white swirl" (550 copies) is listed two times and the "clear gold" (440 copies) pressing was corrected away. Can somebody fix that?2.) Could someone be so kind an add the possibility to add the "gold red swirl" into the personal collection? Thanks a lot in advance.
Gadar
From what I understand, as long as people are buying it, it will keep coming in black.
Delan
I can't find anything for the black third pressing (is this "considered" a third pressing?) anywhere either. Deathwish should be up on this since no one else has bothered...
Frostdefender
Hello, there is also a repress on BLACK vinyl by deathwish (2010). Does anyone know the number of copies and how to add this?
Kajikus
thanks for your help!
Varshav
Even with the instructions provided by the site I have yet to figure out how to add pressing information but I do have a hunch that they will have the same philosophy with the black Jane Doe as they have the recent black represses of You Fail Me and No Heroes which is: "We'll keep pressing them as long as there is demand for them." So I don't think there is any planned limitation to quantities.
from earth
Don't know how many but I can confirm that there is a repress on Black. i just picked up a copy yesterday.
