Les Neiges D'Antan (Snows Of Yesteryear) The Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet. 4. Bath Sheba The Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet. 5. Black Marigolds The Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet. Total Playing Time 41:26. One of the legendary albums from UK Jazz greats, the Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet, this record - along with the rest of the catalogue from this excellent quintet - has reached almost mythical status in the collector's world, as any have tried - and failed - to reissue these albums by legitimate means. Produced by Denis Preston and recorded at his London-based Lansdowne Studios, the band typically included saxophonist Don Rendell, trumpeter Ian Carr, and pianist Michael Garrick. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – Decca (UMO) Studio Masters. Tracks 1-5 – contains high-resolution digital transfers of material originating from an analogue master source.
Shades Of Blue - The Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet. Change Is - The Don Rendell, Ian Carr Quintet.
Rendell/ Carr Quintet shows how far British jazz in the second half of the ’60s had taken new directions. Not a jazz songbook standard in sight, moving away from the usual jazz conventions of AABA structure, heads and solos, rhythm section down in the engine room, improvised virtuosity of the soloists. Ian Carr anticipates the hipster beard and the whole quintet are cast as intense, serious artists. The year Phase III was recorded I was following the herd, shoulder length hair and droopy moustache: suits and ties were strictly for job interviews. Meanwhile, Liberty were getting into their second year of Blue Note ownership, and I wasn’t there either.
